Schemitzun

Each year at the Tribe’s Cultural Grounds, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation hosts its Schemitzun: Feast of Green Corn and Dance powwow. The well-attended event features traditional and contemporary dance exhibitions, live music, craft vendors, and an abundance of great food. Hundreds of dancers representing tribes throughout New England and beyond participate in dance competitions. A 17th Century Eastern Woodland Village reenactment displays a variety of traditional cultural practices, including fire-pit cooking demonstrations, traditional wampum making, loom beadwork and basketry.
